The Wildwoods, NJ: A Mecca for Fishing, Boating and Water Sports

PRESS RELEASE

THE WILDWOODS - The Wildwoods are a natural favorite for those who enjoy fishing, boating and water sports.

For much of the year, the waters off the Wildwoods are bustling with commercial and sport fishing boats returning to their home ports filled with the day's catch.

Cape May County's commercial fishing port is the largest in New Jersey and one of the largest on the East Coast. There is a reason why the fishing port is so successful. The waters off the shores of the Wildwoods are ripe with flounder, weakfish, blackfish, bluefish and striped bass.

Not only do commercial fishermen know the value of the area, but those who fish for fun are aware of the ocean's plentiful bounty, too. Throughout the warmer months of the year, visitors and locals alike enjoy taking the entire family out for a day of boating and fishing.

The bayside of the island is filled with boat slips and marinas where boat owners keep their vessels, as well as where charter and party boat operators dock their boats. And right at the water's edge on designated stretches of the Wildwoods beaches, anglers can practice their skills at surf fishing.

Charter and party boat captains in the Wildwoods offer a variety of excursions, ranging from night fishing trips for bluefish or drum fish; full-day excursions in search of tuna, marlin and swordfish; or a Mississippi River-style paddleboat journey for those who prefer to take in the serene sights rather than catching "the big one."

Wildwoods Sightseer Tram Car returns on Mother's Day Weekend

PRESS RELEASE

WILDWOOD - Just in time for Mother's Day Weekend, the Boardwalk Special Improvement District (SID) has announced that Sightseer Tram Car rides, and the iconic "Watch the Tram Car, Please!" announcement will return to the Wildwoods Boardwalk on Saturday, May 11.

The 2024 season will mark the 76th season of the Sightseer Tram Cars carrying happy families up and down the 38 blocks of fun shops, amusement piers, water parks, bars and restaurants that make up the 2-mile-long Wildwoods Boardwalk.

The Tram Cars debuted in 1939 at the New York’s World’s Fair in Flushing Meadow, NY. President Franklin D. Roosevelt opened the World’s Fair ceremonies and televisions were sold for the first time the next day. TV screens were 5 to 12 inches and sold for $200 to $1,000, meaning only the wealthy could afford such an extravagance.

The Tram Car’s one-way fare was 10¢ when they were brought to the Wildwoods Boardwalk in 1949, and they have certainly traveled through a lot of U.S. history over all those years!

Tee Time in the Wildwoods: Add Golf to Your Vacation Agenda

PRESS RELEASE

THE WILDWOODS - A day on the greens is one of the most relaxing ways to spend time at the Jersey Shore for both novice and skilled golfers alike. Golf courses can be found across Cape May County - from Cape May National to the south to Shore Gate Golf Club to the north - and offer a variety of playing levels from beginning to scratch golfer.

Area courses offer challenging yet playable holes and exquisite venues with tee times from early morning to dusk, so golfers can easily fit their favorite pastime into a vacation or business schedule. Several courses are just minutes away from the Wildwoods and situated close to the ocean or bay; so, there's always a mild breeze, plenty of scenic beauty and lush, well-kept greens and fairways.

With six public courses in Cape May County and even more in nearby counties, tee times are rarely a problem. Most area golf courses have special afternoon, weekday and "twilight" rates for those who want to hit the links after a day at the beach. Many clubs offer restaurants or grill rooms and pro shops.

Golf course developers and designers have realized the demand for the sport in the area and have discovered that the natural attributes found throughout the Jersey Cape are a perfect fit for unique and picturesque golf course layouts.

North Wildwood proposes to temporarily prohibit cabanas, tents, canopies and similar structures in 2024

PRESS RELEASE

NORTH WILDWOOD - City of North Wildwood officials have proposed temporary restrictions on cabanas, tents, canopies and other similar structures for the 2024 summer season.

Types of shaded structures that would be permitted under those regulations include circular umbrellas that are a maximum 8' in diameter and 7',6" in height, and baby tents that are 36" in height, width and length.

The reason behind the proposed restrictions is due to the size of the city's beaches becoming extremely limited because of the lack of assistance received for a beach replenishment project. This has caused beachgoers to set up much closer to one another during the busy summer months.

Unfortunately, the city does not have enough dry beach space to handle the many tends, cabanas, pavilions or other similar structures we have seen in the past. The proposed temporary restriction will allow the influx of beachgoers to have some additional room to enjoy one of the busiest amenities in the city.

This proposed restriction on shaded structures is temporary for the 2024 season at this time. If city officials notice a significant change in the size of our beach, by way of a beach replenishment project or accretion, then City Council will intend to revisit the proposed restrictions.

The restrictions will go into effect beginning May 15, 2024.

PRESS RELEASE

THE WILDWOODS – Morey's Piers and Beachfront Water Parks, located in Wildwood, NJ, just released its 2024 recruitment campaign highlighting a habit we’re all familiar with - endless hours of thumb-scrolling through social media, when we could be spreading the kindness in real life. Partnering with friend of the Piers, John Lynch, Morey’s is contributing up to $10,000 to the #ThumbsUp4Kindness cause as part of this year’s recruitment drive.

“At Morey’s Piers, we value giving back to our community and to our broader industry,” said Denise Beckson, Vice President of Human Resources with Morey’s Piers “I’m really excited we are able to incorporate that philosophy into our recruiting campaign this season. It’s a perfect fit - our jobs are unique and fun, but also considerate and kind - and we get to contribute to and highlight community kindness with this initiative.”

John Lynch, the founder of Lunch with Lynch, added, “The Lunch with Lynch Foundation is proud of its partnership with the Team at Morey’s Piers. Morey’s was one of our first local businesses that jumped right on board with our organization that supports our local schools and children! Our mission is Paying it Forward with Random Acts of Kindness and there is no greater place to work at, that encourages its associates to Pay it Forward with Kindness as they work on Piers and Water Parks.”

Morey’s launched the campaign with a $2500 donation, immediately reaching 25% of the goal (as seen on the thumb-ometer in the above photo)! This year’s campaign uses various tactics to get prospective applicants' attention, including billboards, social media ads, videos and large foam thumbs.

The more interaction the campaign gets, the more Morey’s contributes to John Lynch’s project. Visits to WorkMoreys.com, thumbs up on social media posts (likes), shares and tagging @MoreysPiers all contribute to driving up the donation thumb-ometer to reach the $10k goal.
